BLACKMER SLIDING-VANE
“VISCOSITY VIDEO” NOW AVAILABLE
The video spells this out in three distinct sections:
• A review of basic vane-technology principles with a comparison to
the less effective principles found in gear pumps
• A visual overview of the various viscosity ranges that Blackmer
sliding-vane pumps can handle, from low-viscosity, thin liquids (30
SSU) such as LPG and light fuel oils to high-viscosity liquids
(45,000 SSU, or greater) such as heavy motor oil
• A visual demonstration of the effectiveness of vane technology in
pumping high-viscosity liquids
At the conclusion, the
video shows that the superior mechanical performance of Blackmer
sliding-vane technology results in exceptional mechanical
performance and 24% greater energy efficiency when compared to gear
pumps. Vane technology also performs very effectively in moving
high-viscosity liquids at both high and low speeds. In addition, the
sliding-vane design delivers superior suction lift and
line-stripping capabilities while eliminating the energy-robbing
slip and capacity loss that are associated with gear and lobe pumps.

Provisions in Energy Policy Act of 2005 Create Opportunities For
Pump Manufactures to Help Increase Energy Efficiency
When considering the day-to-day operations of the nation’s
manufacturing sector, it appears the goals of management are at
cross-purposes with the realities of the world at large. Namely,
energy and utility costs continue to rise, while management demands
that greater cost controls be put into place in an attempt to ensure
profitability. An added element to the story is the pressure being
exerted by outside forces for operations that satisfy new
environmentally friendly (and often costly) “green” initiatives.
A key component of any manufacturing operation is its pumping systems, and while they are a necessary part of the supply chain, they are often the cause of increased energy costs due to poor design and improper operation.
With that in mind, Blackmer® has created its Smart Energy Program to emphasize the ability of its positive-displacement sliding-vane pumps to improve the energy efficiency of plants where pump systems are in operation. To illustrate this point, Blackmer has provided the following white paper that explains how the United States Energy Policy Act of 2005 has had a direct effect on pump users and manufacturers.
The white paper recently appeared in the February 2009 issue of World Pumps magazine. To read the published version of the white paper, CLICK HERE.
